McNish Classic Yacht Race 2011
Founded by Dick McNish, this regatta along the Pacific Coast is widely-known for its speciality wooden boats made before 1952. McNish's vision was to bring together lovers of the sea, sailing, and wooden boats. In his words: "No one really 'owns' a wooden boat: You're a custodian and then you pass it on to someone else."
The race features handicaps, allowing slower boats to begin racing so that almost all reach the finish line in close time. The prize is the Strathmore Cup and the skipper's weight in champagne.
